Medicines and Dementia Open Innovation Challenge

# Vision: A future where the quality of life of people at risk of dementia is improved by identifying them earlier and slowing the time to full diagnosis.

Background:

The Chief Scientist Office are investing £240,000, inclusive of VAT, in a Medicines and Dementia Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) focussed on. The aim of this competition is to provide an opportunity for organisations working in partnership with NHS Scotland, to develop disruptive innovative solutions. These solutions will focus on medicines and developing innovative new tools for use in clinical practice supporting people at risk of dementia to manage their medications. The challenge was launched in February 2023 and attracted a high number of excellent applications.

Four companies have been awarded contracts to take forward their Phase 1 projects.

The Phase 1 feasibility projects commenced on Monday 2nd October 2023 and will run for 4 months. Following phase 1, some of the projects will be taken forward into Phase 2. This involves a 12 – month product development project, where the prototype is tested and validated within NHS Scotland’s Regional Innovation Hubs.
